Interview Process

I applied to work at the happiest place on Earth during my first semester of my second year. It happened almost by accident- I was just googling cool summer jobs and the idea of working at Disney World came up. I filled out the application through an organization called Yummy Jobs. It didn't even sound legit to me, I was just avoiding doing homework basically.

But why not apply? I knew I had nothing to lose, so I went for it. I just couldn't resist. The smallest chance of being able to work at Disney World was enough to lure me in.

I basically forgot about it until soon after, I got an email saying I had a phone interview. It's funny, because I was in my stats lab when I got this email and little did I know then, I would also be in stats lab when I found out I got the job. It still didn't feel like a real opportunity so I scheduled a time for it, thinking what the heck. I don't think I even told my friends about it unless they saw it on my calendar. All of us just laughed it off.

I thought my phone interview was too short and that I didn't sell myself enough. I hung up thinking.. wow. This is a real job. I hung up with regret.. suddenly I wanted it. It didn't feel real still but I wanted it.

I joined the Facebook group with all the other interviewees and they're all so awesome. They're all so passionate and Disney experts, I felt for sure I wouldn't move on!

It wasn't until I got an email inviting me to the face to face interviews (also in stats lab I think) that I was beginning to feel like this almost could be real- almost but not quite.

Now it was time to get to business. I told my mum first, when I got home from university for Christmas. She was excited but curious. We kept it secret from my dad until after Christmas.. I didn't know how he'd react but he was more pumped than we were! I remember going to Halifax one day with mum to go shopping and sitting at a restaurant, checking my iphone to get the email with the interview details, and talking about whether we'd go to Toronto or Montreal. This was becoming a little more real.

I flew to Toronto for my February 10 interview on Thursday, February 9 with my mum.
We decided on the Toronto location instead of Montreal because of my school schedule.

It was so much fun to have a weekend in T-dot together. We got to meet my friend Lidia's family and everything which was awesome. I also got to to go Tiffany's and treat myself which was amazing. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe and the Eaton Centre. Mum and I have the coolest adventures together.

The actual interview was held at the Park Hyatt hotel. It was a lot of fun- we had a presentation from one of the recruiters, Jeni, about working at WDW. I got so excited! My interview was only about 10 minutes and was basically a conversation about why I loved Disney- which was so fun! I met a bunch of other applicants too and they were all so so so sweet.

I left Toronto and was unable to concentrate on ANYTHING until I got an email.

I got an email during my stats lab the following week saying I got the job then I accepted!

Now I'm heading to Orlando on May 6!

This is still not feeling real... I don't know if it will until I step foot on Florida soil again.. but for now I'm enjoying the rush!
